North and Northeast Colorado Springs have seen massive growth in recent years as new homes are built, popular restaurants open up and more people move to the area. But with all of the new people coming to the area, the traffic gets worse and so does the number of traffic accidents. Especially in areas such as Interquest Parkway, Briargate, Monument, Falcon and Black Forest where new attractions have been popping up all over the place. These attractions create traffic congestion and the main roads through these areas have become hot spots for traffic fatalities, with 2022 being the most deadly year on record for Colorado Springs traffic accident deaths.
If you’ve driven through Northern Colorado Springs lately, you’ll notice all of the new attractions that have come to town. In-N-Out, Whataburger, ViewHouse, Great Wolf Lodge Water Park, The Summit and soon to open Sunset Amphitheater have all brought a lot of attention to the area. With all of the new things to do and restaurants to try out, more people than ever are moving to the north parts of Colorado Springs as well as people visiting from other areas. And you know what that means, TRAFFIC.
All that combined with countless drivers not paying attention to the road or looking at their phones while driving makes for a dangerous situation for anyone on the road. Motor vehicle drivers and passengers, pedestrians and motorcycle riders all need to pay a lot more attention to their surroundings these days as data has shown that people are becoming less attentive as time goes on.
2022 unfortunately was the deadliest year ever in Colorado Springs for traffic accident fatalities with 55 deaths counted. El Paso County also saw the highest number of motorcycle accident fatalities in all counties in Colorado with 25 total deaths. Most of these accidents were caused by unlawful driving habits such as speeding, drunk or impaired driving, distracted driving and other illegal driver or pedestrian acts. This just goes to show that most of these accidents are preventable by simply following the rules of the road and acting in a safe manner at all times, especially when you are in a vehicle that can severely injure another person. We all want our loved ones to come home safe and for that to happen, we all need to do our part and make good decisions.
Colorado Springs is a large city, but there are certain areas where accidents happen more often than other areas. Some of the most popular roads for car, truck, pedestrian and motorcycle accidents are the following:
Areas of town that have seen growing numbers of accidents are as follows:
The Colorado Department Of Transportation is taking a stand on the growing number of traffic fatalities by partnering with the Colorado State Patrol, Division of Motor Vehicles and local law enforcement to inform drivers and pedestrians how to act in a responsible manner on the roads. Their new initiative is called the “Advancing Transportation Safety Program” and aims to focus on these areas to make our roads a safer place: safe drivers, safe people, safe roads and post-crash care. By making our roads better for drivers, informing the public of the dangers of irresponsible driving and walking, as well as helping people understand how to stay safe after an accident, the Colorado Department Of Transportation is working towards making sure Colorado Springs never breaks another traffic fatality record, which is something I think we can all get behind.
As mentioned earlier, most of the fatal traffic crashes are caused by drivers or pedestrians not following the law. Jaywalking, Speeding, driving while intoxicated, distracted driving and careless driving are the biggest causes of these accidents and all of these acts are illegal as well as preventable. By doing your part and always acting in a safe manner, you are keeping not only your life safer, but also the lives around you are safer and you’re also setting a good example for those that may be watching such as children, friends and family.
By acting in a safe manner and following the laws, you are also keeping yourself safe from personal injury claims because you are not acting negligently. One of the main aspects in personal injury cases that has to be present is negligence. If there is no negligence then you are removing that liability from your everyday activities and keeping yourself and others as safe as possible. As Colorado Springs residents ourselves, we want all of our peers to be able to live their lives without fear of other negligent drivers and that starts with all of us doing our part. If you have questions regarding any of this, reach out to our injury lawyers today for a free consultation.
