What makes this intersection so dangerous? According to Falcon residents, there is no turn light at this intersection, allowing vehicles to make a left turn onto Meridian Road. While drivers turning left must yield to all oncoming traffic, this does not occur all the time. As a result, crashes at this intersection have increased steadily since 2013. In 2017, crashes were up 266% from 2013. According to statistics from the Colorado State Patrol, the majority of the accidents at this intersection were related to inattention to driving and failure to yield the right-of-way.
Since 2013, 69.5% of the accidents at Flower and Meridian were caused by failure to yield right-of-way. The number of accidents at this intersection has fluctuated a bit but mostly remained steady throughout the years.
The intersection at Bent Grass Meadows Drive and Meridian Road has seen nearly triple the number of accidents from 2015 to 2017. Failure to yield the right-of-way at this intersection was up 150% and the cause of more than 83% of all accidents at this intersection. To combat the growing number of accidents at this intersection, Falcon is planning to put a traffic signal there.
